Each week, a country star joins Lon Helton to count down the week’s top 30 country music hits. A Nashville insider, Helton is well known by the stars who open up to tell him funny, unrehearsed stories about their friends. The show is recorded live each week on Nashville’s historic Music Row.
Lon Helton has been host of the “CMT Country Countdown USA” since its inception in 1992. He is publisher of Country Aircheck, an industry trade magazine. He also is editor of the Mediabase Country Chart, which is used in his show.
Helton’s country radio career began in 1971. He spent 12 years as both an on-air personality and a programmer in Los Angeles, Chicago and Denver. He spent 20 years as the country editor of Radio & Records before founding Country Aircheck. Helton is a member of the board of directors of the Country Music Association, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Lon was named CMA National Personality of the Year in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. In 2009 and 2011, he won that honor from the Academy of Country Music. Lon was inducted into the Country Radio DJ Hall of Fame in 2006. He’s hosted numerous radio specials and is country radio’s best known star interviewer.
